Arbitration decisions in figures

The Barcelona Consumer Arbitration Board presents the figures for Arbitration resolutions (rulings) up to 31 December 2013.

In 2013 a total of 2,153 claims were processed in Barcelona. Total cliams in 2013 1080 Files closed: Non-acceptance of arbitration (397); Non-acceptance, but there is mediation (15); Conciliation (222); Due to non-rectification (105); Due to transfer (150); Ruling (57); Rejection (44); Other (28). 101 Queries. 235 Pending hearing: Single arbitrator (119); Arbitration panel (116). 20 Inadmissibility. 50 Pending initial processing. 189 Non-members, company has not responded. 540 In process.

In 2013, a total of 2,153 claims were processed in Barcelona, and in nearly half of those cases, the files were closed.

Over half of the arbitrations (50,64%) are for amounts under 300 €.   Claims pending arbitration according to amount. Figure above €300 49.36%. Figure below €300 50.64%

Regarding the amounts claimed, the number of arbitrations pending resolution for an amount under 300 € is slightly higher (50.64%) than those of above 300 € (49.36%).

Claims by sector pending arbitration in 2013. Telephony: 70.60%. Education: 3.40%. Services: 6.81%. Dry Cleaners: 2.98%. Other: 16.17%

By sector, the largest number of pending arbitration claims in 2013 was for telephony problems, with 70.60%. This was followed by Other Sectors (16.21%), Services (6.81%), Education (3.4%) and lastly, Dry cleaning (2.98%).

On average, the number of arbitration files opened in Barcelona over the last five years is 3,196. On looking at the figures from 2009 to 2011, a progressive increase is detected, reaching a figure of 4,175 files. In 2012 and 2013 these figures decreased considerably: 2,153 files for last year.
